Private Dental Care

 WHAT IS A PRIVATE PATIENT?

Essentially a patient not treated under NHS contract. This means there are none of the rules and restrictions that apply to NHS patients. The duty of care by the dentist is the same but the patient has full control of the type of treatment they have.An example might be someone having gum problems and needing more regular hygiene care than normal. As an NHS patient restrictions on the timings of treatmentexist .As a private patient this can be treated by dentist or hygienist every 2-3 months or as often as needed with no restrictions on time or materials used. This should result in a better result for the patients dental health.

Another example may be if a patient requires a replacement of an old amalgam filling. These days with the amalgam/mercury debate still current and bearing cosmetics in mind more choices are available to provide a non amalgam tooth coloured restoration. However NONE of these are possible on the NHS so have to be provided privately.

Laboratory items are another area where there are differences between private and NHS.If a patient needs a crown or veneer or a denture then there is a big difference between what can be done privately .The NHS option will be fit for the purpose but will not have the finish or the cosmetic appearance of the private option and usually the materials used are limited to the less modern types. The result is that the laboratory can make NHS work much more cheaply to fit into the NHS budget .

This does mean that some laboratories are around offering very cheap work for NHS but some send work abroad and some use unqualified staff for some stages of the work. These laboratories are best avoided. These are some of the laboratories we use at Inchcape. Please follow the link to view these and learn about what they provide.

We have patients on various dental plans the most common are Fife Dentalcare and Denplan and we accept all other types of insurance based plans. We can accept patients on to a dental plan once they have had an examination and are declared dentally fit before the plan commences. If there are items of treatment needed to bring to dental fitness this must be carried out before the plan can begin.Once on the dental plan the only usual extra costs are laboratory fees.

We also have a Dental Maintainence Plan which has a lower monthly cost but only covers examinations xrays and hygienist visits .Any treatment other than this is at an extra charge but at a subsidised rate.

Fife Dental Care is administered by Independent Care Plans and for more information on how these plans work and all about them please click on the link below.
